Hi – I’m Zac. I live in Colorado with my wife, our
two three kids and our two big dogs. We like having adventures, being outside, figuring things out. Right now, I work in healthcare. Before that, I served for a few years in the military.
This site is my notebook on having a happy & successful career and life. It helps reflect on my work and share ideas & tools that make my life more fulfilling. I write here for myself, to sort through what is going on, what is working, and what isn’t. I share it publicly in case it in can be helpful for anyone else.
Why do I spend time outside of work thinking about work?
I believe work should be meaningful, fun, and create value for myself and those around me. My work is a huge part of who I am. It’s how I spend the majority of my waking hours. It funds all aspects of my family’s life. It is the value I create for others in the world. Many of my relationships are formed through work. And hours spent working are time away from my family, my wife, and my children. So, to me, good work is central to having a satisfying life.
But, for me, at times work can be stressful. My career does not always energize, engage, challenge, and support me. I often create less value for others than I intend.
This site is about closing the gap.
I’m working towards a life of calm, fulfilling, value-creating work that makes me a better person for my coworkers, customers, family, my community–that supports the rest of my life rather than competes with it.
I believe closing the gap is a process. We can all find ways to make our work weeks more worthwhile and fulfilling–by reflecting, learning new skills, and changing our approach. Each of us only gets so much time, and we spend much of it working–we should make it as meaningful as possible.
I started this site as a journal project to help me reflect, to be increasingly intentional about work and life. I use this space to share insights, thoughts, and lessons I’ve learned in the process. If you’ve found your way here, I hope my reflections can be helpful and encouraging to you also.
If you have any feedback on this site, or you have an idea on this topic to share, I’d love to hear it–you can find me on twitter or reach out through the contact form.
Thank you for reading. Take care!
